Revealing the State-of-the-Art in Large-Scale Agile Development: A Systematic Mapping Study

Context: The large-scale adoption of agile methods has received significant attention in recent years, both in academia and industry. Although extensive research has been done in the field of large-scale agile development (LSAD), there exists no comprehensive overview of the state of research in this area. Objective: This study aims at surveying and analyzing existing research on LSAD to scope the phenomenon, provide an overview of the state-of-the-art, and identify areas for future research. Method: A systematic mapping study (SMS) was conducted to analyze research on LSAD covering 133 publications dated from 2007 to 2019. Results: Conclusion: The results of this study reveal an increased interest in the application of agile methods in larger software projects in recent years.
